Reader Letters

Lakeshore Ledger

Notes sent to the editor by people who read the magazine, shared here to show how the stories are used and what readers value.

Letters received

What readers tell us

These letters came to the editor's desk over the past while. They are shared in the readers' own words, lightly trimmed for length.

Helen Marchetti Reader, southern Ontario

“I found a small bookstore two towns over because of one of your profiles. I went on a Saturday, stayed an hour and bought three books. I would not have known it was there. Please keep writing about places like that.”

Raymond Okafor Reader, Alberta

“The festival piece made me plan a weekend away with my sister. The details were right: the street, the hours, even where to park. It is rare to find an article that is that useful and still pleasant to read.”

Dorothy Beaulieu Newsletter subscriber, Quebec

“I took the ad-free newsletter after trying the sample edition. It is quiet and easy on the eyes, and I read it on Sunday mornings with coffee. The larger type suits me well, and nothing blinks or pops up.”

Stephen Whitlock Gallery owner, Nova Scotia

“We run a small gallery and had a sponsored feature written about us. It was labelled clearly, and the writer asked good questions. A few people came in who said they had read it, which was welcome.”

About letters

How we handle what readers send us

Letters shape what we write. Readers point out errors, suggest places and tell us what they found useful. This is how we treat that correspondence.

Corrections

If a reader tells us an address, hour or name is wrong, we check it and correct the article. We would rather fix a mistake quickly than leave it standing. A short correction note is added where the change matters. We do not remove articles to hide an error, and we thank the reader who spotted it. Accuracy matters most when someone plans a trip around our words.

Story suggestions

Many of our best subjects come from readers who know their own neighbourhood well. Tell us about a café, a festival, a trail or a shop that deserves attention. We cannot promise every suggestion becomes a story, but each one is read. We favour independent, privately run places and community events.

Sharing your words

We only share a reader's letter with permission, and we may shorten it for length. We may leave out a surname or town if you ask. Your contact details are never published. If you would rather your note stay private, tell us in your message and it will.
