Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to what readers and local businesses ask us most. If yours is missing, write to us through the contact page.

  1. Are the regular articles really free to read?

Yes. Our regular articles on entertainment, local discoveries and travel are free to read, with no account needed. We earn our income openly from two sources: the optional ad-free newsletter and sponsored features written for local businesses.

  2. What is the ad-free newsletter?

It is an optional paid weekly edition delivered without advertising. You can preview a sample edition first to see whether it suits you. It is meant for readers who prefer a quiet, uncluttered read, and it does not replace the free articles on the site.

  3. How do I order the newsletter or a sponsored feature?

Nothing is bought on the site itself. You send an enquiry through the contact page, and we reply with a written confirmation or quotation. After that we send an invoice, which you pay by bank transfer in Canadian dollars.

  4. How do I know when an article is sponsored?

Every sponsored feature carries a clear label so it is never mistaken for ordinary coverage. Our editorial pieces are chosen by our writers, not by advertisers. Sponsored features are written for local businesses and arranged by written quotation.

  5. What does a sponsored feature cost?

The price depends on the scope of the feature and is set out in a written quotation. The Prices page explains what is included and what can change it. We do not publish anything until you have read and confirmed the quotation.

  6. Can I cancel or ask for a refund?

Cancellations and refunds follow our payment and refund policy, which you can read on its own page. If you have a particular situation, write to us through the contact page and we will answer in writing.

  7. Do you cover places outside Ontario?

Yes. Our writers cover Ontario, the Prairies, British Columbia, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. We focus on privately run cafés, bookstores, galleries, restaurants and venues, as well as festivals and scenic places worth a visit.

  8. Can I suggest a place or a story?

Please do. Use the contact form to tell us about a place, event or person in your area. We read every message, though we cannot promise each one becomes an article. We favour independent places and community events.
