How we choose

What goes into a Lakeshore Ledger story

Behind each story is a simple set of choices about what to cover and how to treat it. These notes describe how our writers and photographers approach the work, so readers know what to expect.

Choosing subjects

We look for places and people with a real story, not just a good address. A café that has served its street for years, a small festival run by volunteers, a gallery showing local painters: these are the kinds of subjects we favour. We avoid conflict-driven news and sensational angles, and prefer something a reader can go and see for themselves.

Visiting and checking

Where we can, our writers visit in person and speak with the people involved. Names, addresses and opening details are checked before publication, and we correct mistakes when readers point them out. We do not invent quotations, and we do not report rumours as fact.

Photography

Our photo editor shoots feature photography in daylight where possible, with readable, spacious framing. Pictures are chosen to show the place or the scene as it is, with captions that say plainly what the reader is looking at. Sponsored features are labelled so they are never mistaken for ordinary coverage.
